WHAT is this subject about?
Here are two of the units you will study in this course:

  • Human Growth and Development - focusing on: human growth and development; factors affecting human growth and development; effects of relationships; effects of life events on personal development

  • Effective Communication in Health and Social Care - focusing on: types of verbal and non-verbal communication; adapting communication methods to meet individual needs; barriers to communication; and how these can be overcome. 


WHY should I choose this subject?
If you have an interest in health and social care, this course would be suitable. You will also develop key skills and gain confidence in independent learning skills.

WHEN and HOW am I assessed?
The Health and Social Care course is a BTEC L2 Award, which can be completed to a Pass, Merit or Distinction. The majority of units are assessed through an assignment under controlled conditions. However, one unit is examined, which is a mixture of short answer questions and questions based on short scenarios and case studies. There are four units to be completed in total, including the examination unit. These units are; Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3 and Unit 6. 

WHICH subjects should I have an aptitude in?
You should have a keen interest in health and social care services, want to study a course that is active and be interested in exploring issues that affect health.

WHERE could this subject take me in the future?
This coursecanleadto: AS and A Level, Level Three Diploma, BTECs or OCR Nationals, all in the health care sector or directly to a job with further training.
